Bio
Colombian Alejandro Falla began playing tennis at the age of six.  He prefers playing on hard courts and considers his backhand his best shot. His father, Jorge, is a tennis coach who now lives in Naples, Florida. His mother, Elsa, takes care of his younger brother, Sebastian, and his younger sister, Kelly. His tennis idols are Boris Becker and Pete Sampras.

Falla debuted as a professional in his home country in 2000, and his Grand Slam debut at the French Open in 2004. He first reach the Top 100 in early 2007, and reached the second round of Wimbledon that summer, losing to the then-No. 6 Fernando Gonzalez in four sets.

That October, he reached the semifinals at Lyon, upsetting two Top 35 players to jump from No. 128 to No. 96 in the rankings. Falla slid out of the Top 100 and eventually the Top 200 during the 2009 season, but success on the Challenger circuit got him back inside the Top 100 by that fall.

In 2010, he reached the third round of the Australian Open, and entered popular culture in late June when he took a 2-0 lead on Roger Federer in the first round at Wimbledon, only to see the masterful Swiss rally for a 5-7, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(1), 6-0 victory. Falla remained ranked in the 60s throughout the summer, but slid back to 90th by year's end.
