Bio
Italian professional Alessio di Mauro's name is known in tennis circles far more for his actions off the court than those on them.

He won $700,000 and was ranked as high as 68th in a career that spanned 2001-2007, reaching his first ATP final in 2007 at Buenos Aires, where he was defeated by Juan Monaco.

In November of 2007, while ranked No. 124, he became the first ATP player ever sanctioned for betting on matches. He received a $60,000 fine and a nine-month suspension from the ATP Tour for betting on matches from November of 2006 to June of 2007.

Because he was found not to have bet on his own matches nor attempting to influence the results of matches, his suspension time was less than the three-year maximum possible for his crime.

He resumed play in September of 2008 in minor events in Italy and Spain, going just 1-1 in ATP matches. He continued to play largely in Italy to start 2009, then fell in the first round of qualifiers at both the Madrid Masters and the French Open.

He gained 75 points for winning the 32-man clay tournament at Milan, ending the year ranked well below 200th. He continued playing small tournaments for small points in 2010, and is currently ranked 161st in the world.

Personal
Began playing tennis at age six with his older brothers Germano and Fabio, both of whom also played professionally. Moved to Palermo in age 15 along with Germano to focus more on tennis. Coached by countryman Fabio Rizzo.
