Germany's Andrea Petkovic, a native of Bosnia, debuted on the ATP tour in 2005 and finished the 2007 season ranked 100th thanks to one ITF title, one final and four semifinal appearances. She also reached the second round of the main draw at both Wimbledon and the US Open.
An injury cost her nearly nine months in 2008 and she slid as far as 429th in the rankings before fighting back to finish the season 315th with a 14-11 record. Things began turning her way in 2009, as she strung together several successful ITF tournaments at mid-season to break into the Top 100 in late June. At Bad Gastein in late July, she entered ranked 98th in the world, only to run the field and win the title, her first on tour, soaring to 61st in the rankings. She finished the season 56th with a 45-24 mark.
There was no even-year jinx for Petkovic in 2010 as she started the year off by reaching the semifinals at Brisbane, the quarters at Paris and the final at 'S-Hertogenbosch. She failed to defend her title at Bad Gastein, but reached the semifinals at Istanbul and shined at the US Open with a fourth-round appearance that guided her to a year-end ranking of 32nd.
The rise continued in the first half of 2011 as Petkovic started the campaign by reaching hte Brisbane finals and the Australian Open quarters. She cracked the Top 20 by making the semifinals at Miami, won her second tour title at Strasbourg and fought to the quarterfinals of the French Open.

Off the Court
Was taught the game by her father, Zoran. Speaks four languages - French, German, English and Serbian. Calls the 2007 French Open her most memorable experience on tour. Is quite well-rounded, listing her favorite authors as Goethe and Wilde, and her favorite movie as 300. Has one of the biggest fan bases on her tour as she allows her admirers considerable access via her home page, a YouTube Channel and a irregular blog in a German newspaper.
