Bio
The Netherlands’ Anrantxa Rus entered the spotlight at the 2011 French Open when she stunned then-No. 2 ranked Kim Clijsters in the second round, snapping Clijsters’ bid for a third straight Grand Slam title.

Rus made her professional debut in 2005 on the ITF circuit at the age of 14.
She made her WTA debut with a wild card at ‘S-Hertogenbosch in 2007, losing to Alona Bondarenko in the first round. She spent the rest of the year on the ITF circuit, reaching three finals and winning two titles.

She won another ITF title in 2008 and had a WTA breakthrough at Guangzhou, defeating Yanina Wickmayer and Gisela Dulko to reach the tournament quarterfinals to break into the Top 200 for the first time. She also won the Australian Open juniors title, sending her from 35th to second in the juniors rankings.

She split time between the WTA and ITF tours in 2009, reaching the main draw of the French Open and winning her first match there.
In 2010, she matched her best performance to date at a WTA event, reaching the quarterfinals at Estoril to rise to No. 105 in the rankings. She struggled the rest of the way on both tours and fell back to No. 123 at year’s end.

Rus began 2011 by qualifying for the main draw of the Australian Open and upsetting American Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the first round. At Miami, she reached the main draw and was rewarded with a move to No. 99 in the world, her first crack inside the Top 100. She slipped back outside the Top 100 when she failed to get out of the qualifying rounds at Estoril.
