Ranked No. 78 in the world at the end of 2010, France's Arnaud Clement is a former Top 10 player with four career ATP singles titles and 12 career ATP doubles titles.
He has finished in the year-end Top 20 twice and the Top 50 five times.
He debuted in 1996, and had his first breakthrough season in 1999. He won his first career ATP title that February in Marseille, with wins over three Top 60 players in the process. He also reached the semifinals at Boston and the fourth round of the US Open to finish 56th on the season.
He joined the tennis elite in 2000, start a two-season run that saw him routinely in the Top 20. He started the 2000 season by reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open, then reached the semifinals at Los Angeles and again Cincinnati, moving into the Top 35 for the first time. He went on to reach the semifinals at Long Island, then the quarterfinals of the US Open, shocking No. 1 Andre Agassi in the second round with ease, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. He bested Agassi in the semifinals at Lyon en route to the title, vaulting from 25th to 18th, where he ended the year.
Rankings wise, Clement was just as successfull in 2001, finishing 17th. He started the season with his most memorable tournament, reaching the finals of the Australian Open, but falling to Agassi in straight sets there. The victory pushed him up to 12th in the rankings, and he briefly joined the Top 10 later that season.
Despite being just 25 at the beginning of the 2002 season, Clement seemed to have reached his peak and a downward slide began as he dropped to 38th in the rankings, then all the way to 104th by 2004.
He fought back to 42nd by the end of 2006 thanks to a pair of titles at Washington and Marseille, but he has not won another title since in singles, and has not finished inside the Top 50 since.
As a doubles player, Clement has had more success of late, winning three titles in 2004, two in 2006 and three again in 2007.
