Elaine Baltacha was born in Kiev, Ukraine, but moved to Ipswich, England when she was six, then to Perth, Scotland, when she was a teenager, following the career of her father, a professional football (soccer) player. Father Sergie, was a member of the 1980 USSR Olympic football team which won a bronze medal, and also played in both the 1982 World Cup and the 1986 European Cup, in which his Dynamo Kiev squad was victorious. He would later manage football teams as well.
Baltacha's mother was also a world-class athlete, competing at the Olympic Standard level in both the pentahlon and hepathlon.
Her brother Sergei played five years of professional football in Scotland.
Was born in Kiev, but lives in Ipswich, England. Her father was a professional soccer player and manager, and represented the USSR in the 1980 Olympics, where he won a bronze medal, as well as the 1982 World Cup, and the 1986 European Cup, which his team, Dynamo Kiev, won. Her mother was an Olympic Standard competitor in the pentathlon and heptathlon, and her brother played five years of professional soccer in Scotland. She began playing tennis at age 6 and is coached by Nino Severino.
Elena began playing tennis at age 10 and enjoys both reading and listening to music.
