Currently ranked No. 81 in the world, Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov is in his third year as a pro after destroying the junior circuit, highlighted by his victories at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2008, a campaign in which he also advanced to the quarterfinals at the French Open.

He turned heads in his second-ever ATP event, upsetting No. 23 Tomas Berdych in the first round at Rotterdam in 2008, then taking world No. 1 Rafael Nadal to three sets in a 5-7, 6-3, 2-6 defeat. This tournament was held with Dimitrov ranked No. 478 in the world and all of 17 years, 9 months of age.

He finished the season ranked 296th. He started 2010 slugggisghly until winning the Geneva, Bangkok and Bangkok 2 Challenger events in succession to end the year ranked No. 105. In his first Grand Slam event, he reached the second round of the 2011 Australian open, upsetting No. 38 Andrey Goubev in the first round after qualifying.
