Began playing tennis at the age of 9. His father Marko is an electrician, and his mother, Hazira, is a housewife. He has an older brother, Vlado. Escaped Bosnia at age 13 in 1992, and was one of several players taken to Italy by a club. Reached the final of Wimbledon Juniors in 1996, and was a bronze medalist in doubles at the 2004 Athens Summer Games. Is coached by Riccardo Piatti. Was named 2007 ATP Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year for his work with Special Olmypics. He speaks Croatian, Italian and English. Married wife Aida in 2004 and son Leonardo was born on November 5, 2008. Enjoys scuba diving and makes a point to take a trip with his wife at the end of each tennis season.
