On the Court
Serbian Jelena Jankovic made her professional debut in 2000 and cracked the WTA Top 100 for the first time in 2003. She won her first Tour singles title in 2004 at Budapest and broke into the top 50 that summer. In 2005 she made her deepest penetration at a Grand Slam event, winning her way to the third round at both Wimbledon and the US Open.
After starting the 2006 season 1-10, she finished it 44-17 and made it to the final of the US Open, the best finish of her career. She reached the fourth round at Wimbledon and the third round at both the French and Australian Opens.
In 2007, she finished No. 3 in singles and won four tour titles. She also won her first Grand Slam title when she teamed with Jamie Murray to take the mixed double crown at Wimbledon.
In 2008, she made the semifinals of the Australian and French Opens and finished the season ranked No. 1. Her 2009 campaign was her third straight in the top 10, finishing at No. 8.
In 2010, Jankovic reached the semifinals of the French Open before falling to Samantha Stosur. After Wimbledon, she went into a protracted slump, largely caused by an eye injury that ultimately required minor surgery. She fell from second in the world after Wimbledon to eighth at year's end.
