Argentina's Jose Javier Acasuso is the son of Jose Andres and Selva Monica. He began playing tennis at age two when his father took him, along with his brother Juan Andres and his sister Gabriela to his grandfather's tennis club to take lessons.
His nickname is "Chucho." He played youth tennis at Itapau Club and Club Progreso de Posadas in Misiones, and also played basketball until the age of 12 when he decided to focus solely on tennis.
His favorite surface to play on is clay and he is coached by countryman Gabriel Markus.
