Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis is the son of Christos, who owns a clothing store, and Andry. He began playing tennis at age five with his father and two older brothers. The family is completed by younger sister Zena, who was adopted when she was one month old.
Is a big football fan, both playing it and watching it professionally. His favorite football squad is Apollo in Cyprus. As a younger player, idolized Patrick Rafter. He was named Cyprus' "Man of the Year" in 2005.
