Ranked No. 311 in the world at the end of 2010, Hungary's Melinsa Czink is a former Top 40 singles player with one career singles title.
After years struggling to stay in the Top 100, Czink had a standout year in 2009 at age 27. She started the season by reaching the quarterfinals at Hobart and did so again at Charleston, upsetting No. 10 Nadia Petrova in the third round. She continued the hot streak by reaching the semifinals at Fes, jumping to a career-best 62nd in the rankings. She reached another quarterfinal at Birmingham, and uset No. 11 Ana Ivanovic in the second round at Cincinnati. But her most impressive performance of the season came at Quebec City, where she won her first career WTA title, defeating Petrova again in the quarterfinals.
