Currently ranked No. 14 in the world, Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny has 13 career ATP Tour titles six as a singles player.
He has been ranked as high as No. 8 in the world, first achieving that rank on Jan. 28, 2008. His highest doubles ranking is No. 43, reached on Sept. 11, 2006.
He reached his first ATP quarterfinal in Moscow in 2000 and finished in the Top 100 for the first time in 2001 (58th). He reached the third round of the Australian Open in his Grand Slam debut, lost to Thomas Rafter in the fourth round at Wimbledon and the third round of the US Open to Pete Sampras.
He won his first ATP title in 2002, winning at Stuttgart, but missed six weeks of the summer with a back injury. He still managed to finish No. 32 in the year-end rankings. He slipped to No. 43 in 2004, winning one title (at St. Petersburg) and reaching the quarterfinals of the Athens Olympics (falling to American Mardy Fish).
Rose to prominence at the US Open in 2006, entering the tournament ranked No. 54 and defeating the Spanish trio of No. 13 David Ferrer, No. 5 Tommy Robredo and No. 2 Rafael Nadal before falling to Andy Roddick in four sets in the semifinals. He moved up to No. 24 in the rankings after that, and finished the year at that same mark.
In 2007, he finished in the Top 20 (16th) for the first time and won a career-best 50 matches. He cracked the Top 10 in August, but only stayed there for a week. He won his third ATP title at Rotterdam, and was the runner-up in Dubai, defeating Nadal in the quarterfinals before losing to Roger Federer in the final. In the summer, he made the fourth round of the French Open (lost to Federer) and the fourth round at Wimbledon (losing to Nadal in five sets). He earned more than a million dollars for the first time in his career.
He won his fourth career ATP title in 2008, defeating Nadal, and reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, falling to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He reached the third round at the French Open and the fourth round at Wimbledon, but missed the US Open with a viral illness.
Youzhny returned to the Top 20 in 2009, reaching four finals during the season. In 2010, he reached the quarterfinals of the French Open for the first time, falling to Tomas Berdych, but wasn’t as successful at Wimbledon, tumbling in the second round.

Began playing tennis at age six. Older brother Andrei played pro Future events from 1998-2000. At age 13, was a ballboy for Russia-USA Davis Cup final, and took photos with Jim Courier, Sampras and Todd Martin. Coached by Boris Sobkin. Married wife Yulia in 2008 in Moscow.
