France's Richard Gasquet began playing tennis at four years old with his father Francis, who ran a tennis club in the town of Serignan. His father served as Gasquet's coach until 2001, and his mother, Maryse, also teaches tennis. Gasquet was well known early in his life, appearing on the cover of the French Tennis Magazine in 1996 at the tend age of nine.
Gasquet is a big rugby fan and supports his hometown squad - Beziers. Gasquet moved to Switzerland in 2005, and in 2008, he debuted the Richard Gasquet foundation, dedicated to using sports to bring underprivileged youth back to health and enable them to rediscover the joys of life, and as a way to built a future.
