Currently ranked No. 40 in the world, Italy's Sara Errani has two career ATP singles and seven career ATP doubles titles to her credit.
She has been ranked as high as 31st in both singles and doubles competition. Errani turned pro in 2002, but did not crack the Top 100 as a singles player until 2007. She began that season ranked 174th, but was down to No. 250 when she had a major breakthrough at Acapulco, defeating the third, seventh and second seeds to reach the semifinals, eventually falling to countrywoman Flavia Pennetta there.
The run pushed her up to No. 150, and she cracked the Top 100 for the first time after reaching the second round of the US Open. She followed that with a semifinal appearance at Bali to end the year ranked 70th, a 101-spot jump from the year previous.
She began 2008 ranked 69th overall and started the season by reaching the quarterfinals at Auckland. The season brought her first tour title - at home in Palermo - as she defeated Pennetta in the semifinals and Mariya Koryttseva in the final. She rose to 56th in the rankings with the victory, but didn't rest on her laurels, winning at Portoroz two weeks later, with wins over Maria Kirilenko and Caroline Wozniacki. That win propelled her to No. 41 in the world, and she ended the year ranked 42nd.
She would end the next two seasons ranked in the 40s. She rose as high as 32nd heading into Indian Wells early in 2009, then slipped back to 47th before reaching the finals at Palermo. She reached the final at Portoroz as well, losing in three sets to then-No. 1 Dinara Safina. She enjoyed her best Grand Slam performance to date, reaching the third round of the US Open.
In 2010, she reached a career-best singles ranking at No. 31, but slid back to 43rd at year's end despite compiling a 37-29 overall record.
Errani's seven ATP doubles titles include Palermo, 's-Hertogenbosch, Acapulco, Marbella, Barcelona, Moscow, Hobart and Pattaya City. Her most frequent doubles partner is Roberta Vinci.
