Bio
Currently ranked No. 16 in the world, Israeli Shahar Peer has eight career WTA titles.
She first played in Tour main draws in 2004 and had her first Top 50 finish in 2005, making the third round of both the French and US Opens. She won her first three Tour singles titles in 2006 and made the fourth round of the French and US Opens, finishing the year 20th and winning two Tour doubles titles.
She finished 17th in the world in 2007, making her first two Grand Slam quarterfinals at the Australian and US Opens. In 2008, she lost in the first round at the French, dropping out of the Top 20 for the first time since November of 2006.
She reached her first Grand Slam final in doubles at the Australian Open and missed time with a right foot injury.
She won her fourth and fifth Tour singles titles in September of 2009, allowing her to climb back up the rankings to finish 31st. Her injured foot continued to persist, causing her to miss the French Open.
Peer started 2010 by reaching the third round of the Australian Open, then made the semifinals at Dubai, defeating top seed Caroline Wozniacki in the process. She followed that with a fourth-round finish at the French Open, losing to top seed Serena Williams and moving up to 14th in the rankings. She followed this up with a disappointing effort at Wimbledon, upset in the second round by 54th-ranked Angelique Kerber of Germany.

Personal
Is coached by Pablo Giacopelli. She began playing tennis at age 6. Older siblings Shlomi and Shani also play. In November, 2005, she began mandatory military training in the Israeli Army.
