Robin Bo Carl Soderling was born to parents Bo, a lawyer, and Britt-Inge, a housewife. His older sister Sandra is a teacher. Success came early for Soderling, who won the Orange Bowl in 2001 by defeating Juan Monaco in the final. His favorite hobby is playing table tennis, and his favorite movie is "Gladiator". Soderling speaks fluent Swedish, English, and German.
He was engaged to Jenni Moström in 2008. When asked about tying his engagement ring to his shoelace, he said, "It feel more secure having it tied to the shoe lace than putting it in my bag. It's with me all the time and she [Jenni] has ran every meter with me..."
Soderling won his first ATP-level title in Lyon, France, in 2004 by beating Xavier Malisse in three sets in the final.
