2009 US Open Suicide Pool - Everyone In!

Let’s hop into the time machine for a second to 2000 when Safin scorched through Sampras for his first career major title. Did we witness a little Déjà vu this afternoon? I think we may have.

Check back later for our tournament wrap up!

Simply put, DelPo played the match of his life. He let nerves get the better of him in the 1st set where he put on a listless performance. It wasn’t until he broke Federer for the 1st time in the 2nd set that the nerves finally settled and the belief he displayed all tournament long, settled in. Federer, for...Read More

400 people entered the Talk About Tennis Suicide Pool (talkabouttennis.com) two weeks ago and only ONE pool player will have the chance of wining if Federer takes major title # 16 this afternoon. If Federer falls this afternoon, there will be a 74 way tie.

Day 14 Recap:

DelPo Blitzes Nadal 6-2, 6-2, 6-2

As much as we like to play clairvoyance, we didn’t see this one coming. After being relegated to the outside courts in his previous five rounds, he finally grabbed som...Read More

Well, this is it. We've come to our last pick for the 2009 US Open Suicide Pool. We've made it to the semis but can go no further. Our last pick will be Federer to win his semifinal match against Djokovic.

Day 13 recap:

Another disappointing non-performance:

Nadal def. Gonzalez 7-6, 7-6, 6-0

There are no picks today since the only men's match scheduled is the resumption of the Nadal/Gonzalez match up. It's a pity the rains came and interupted a highly entertaining and evenly contested 2 sets. Let's hope that Gonzo can regroup and gut out the 2nd set breaker.

Day 11 recaplette:

The rain took centre stage but Jm Delpo scorched into the semis with a 4 set win over Cillic before it came.  Today, it was Cillic who came out of the blocks firing but it was DelPo who would find his game in the 2nd to wrap up...Read More

No thanks to Murray's non-performance, I, once again, have no chance to beat the draw since I have already used Cillic and Del Potro in previous rounds. However, as of today, I'm still alive in the suicide pool so I'll forge on ahead and pick Djokovic to win his match over the lefty Verdasco.

Day 10 Recap:

Upset of the day: Cillic def. Murray 7-5, 6-2, 6-2

Bottom half of the men's draw is tricky territory. Both Murray and Del Potro should win their respective matches today but we'll take Del Potro as our day 9 suicide pool pick.

Wrap up of the round of 16:

Comeback wins of the day:

Oudin def. Petrova 1-6, 7-6(2), 6-3

Oudin just keeps finding ways to win tough matches.  This is the 3rd match in a row where she has lost the 1st set and fought back to take t...Read More

We've made it through to the round of 16! Men's draw has stayed fairly intact thus far which makes the next few picks soo critical.

Seeing as we've already used Davydenko,  for day 8, we're going with Soderling to upset Davydenko.

Most Bizarre Scoreline:  Clijsters def V. Williams 6-0, 0-6, 6-4

This was the marquee matchup of day 7 but it didn&rsqu...Read More
