*** Pictured above is little Micaela Bryan who is now 12 weeks old. She and Bob and her Mom, Michelle, will be in Europe traveling the circuit for the next 3 months - - - she was born to fly.
*** Upcoming claycourt events for the Bros. include Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, and Paris for the French Open. The guys will play Queens again - - - and were just named honorary members of that club - - - then play the Boodles Challenge Exo, followed by Wimbledon. They will then return to the US to compete at the Newport Grass Court Tournament before returning to London for the Olympics that will be held at Wimbledon.
*** Coach Bryan emceed the US Claycourt Championships at the venerable and picturesque River Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas two weeks ago and Van Barry and his staff and volunteers did their usual outstanding job. The Bros. had every intention of playing there but they were worn out after their schedule this year and having to go to Europe for two Davis Cup Matches and then the thought of playing the French Davis Cup Team in Monte Carlo and making the long flight back across the Atlantic to Texas and then right back to Monte Carlo again was too much for them. They send along their best wishes to Van and the tennis fans in Houston and they were sorry to not be able to play there and they apologize and they hope to be back next year. They have been loyal to that event and played it 10 times and won it four times.
*** Following Houston, Coach Bryan then did clinics and talks at Little Rock and thanks to Greg Fess and Breda Turner for all their warm hospitality and the great job they did there on those events. Wayne then went on to Spartanburg, South Carolina to emcee their pro event and do more talks and clinics. Cornelius Jordan and his pros and staff have a nice pro event and sensational junior program there.
*** All the Bryan and Blake family members are saddened to report that Charlie Blake passed away on April 12. Charlie was a wonderful Husband, Dad, Father in Law, and Granddad. He was brilliant and had so many interests from Astronomy to Classical Music to Aeronautical Engineering to Swimming and Biking. We will miss his kind and gentle personality and his smile and laugh. He taught Mike and Bob how to ride a bike and was so supportive of their music and academics and their tennis. He attended many of their junior, Stanford and pro matches in person and always cheered them on. He also watched all of their TV matches and was right there by the computer watching score lines and stats. Mike and Bob dedicated Monte Carlo to him and they will play the rest of the year in his memory. They can't win them all, but they will always strive to play with energy and enthusiasm and a sense of fun. Charlie will be missed, but his example and kind and caring character traits will live on in us all.
