(December 20, 2012) – Chelsea Piers Connecticut announced that additional adult sports classes are being launched in 2013.  These sports fitness classes were developed to complement the core sports offered at Chelsea Piers Connecticut. Classes take place in their respective sports venues and have member and non-member pricing options.

“At Chelsea Piers, we believe in using an athlete’s passion for sports to maintain health and fitness,” commented Mollie Marcoux, Executive Director of Chelsea Piers Connecticut. “If you’re a tennis player, then take cardio tennis.  If ice hockey is your thing, come play a pick-up game at lunch. We want people to achieve their fitness goals by doing what they love. If you played a sport in high school or college or want to learn something new, Chelsea Piers Connecticut provides multiple outlets to continue playing both recreationally and competitively.”

Sports classes for adults include:

TENNIS
Cardio Tennis - Classes combine skill aspects of tennis with cardiovascular exercise to deliver a high energy, full body workout.  The class is open to all ability levels, and is a great introduction to the sport for those who are new to the game.
Learn-to-Play – The Learn-to-Play program offers six weeks of instructional tennis. Basic fundamentals are covered including strokes, technique, footwork, grips, scoring/rules, proper etiquette and more.

FIELD HOUSE
Boot Camp -  Participants enjoy innovative, heart-pounding fitness training as they tackle obstacle courses and execute a variety of exercises including squat thrusts, lunges, burpees and more on the 100 yard air-conditioned turf field.
Zumba – Zumba is a Latin inspired, dance-fitness class that integrates various forms of dance to create a dynamic, exciting and effective dance workout.  The class incorporates both fast and slow rhythms to achieve a uniquely blended balance of cardio and muscle-toning benefits.
League Play – Keep reliving those high school and college glory days by joining one or more of the adult leagues with friends or co-workers. Sports offered include basketball, soccer, volleyball, field hockey and lacrosse.

AQUATICS
Aqua Abs – Aqua Abs is an ab focussed workout that utilizes many of the traditional land-based ab exercises, but uses water as the key resistance tool.
Aqua Jog - This program recreates the cardio component of running without the impact of traditional running.  The water also adds resistance to tone muscles and build strength, stamina and flexibility.
Masters Swimming – Every practice is overseen by an experienced and knowledgeable coach.  All four competitive strokes are taught, as well as starts and turns and a fitness/technical component.  Optional competitons are also offered.
Full Throttle Triathlon Training – Several levels and times are offered for triathlon training.  A five-day/week racing team and three-day/week intro program both meet in the morning before work.  A mid-morning two times/ week will be introduced in January. (Fee based.)

SQUASH CLUB
Squash Fit (Squash/Club Members only) - Squash Fit combines skill aspects of squash with the proven fat burning benefits of short bursts of cardio that make the competitive game so rigorous. Plyometrics, core strength training and stretching are also incorporated for an effective and fun squash workout.
Women’s Adult Clinic (Members / Non-members) – Squash is a great social sport, in addition to a good workout.  These two-hour clinics help participants learn to play, polish up weak spots in their game, get one-on-one and small group coaching, and enjoy traditional game play.

ICE RINKS
Lunch Time Hockey – Pick-up hockey games for adults are scheduled on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for those who want to sweat it out on the ice but don’t want the weekly commitment of a team and league play.  Tuesday is “Ladies’ Day.”
League Play – Players can register as individuals or as a team.  Divisions are structured to accommodate players of all abilities and experience levels.

GYMNASTICS/JUMP ZONE – Ten-pack class cards available at Member and Non-member rates
Trampoline Fitness - Classes begin with a warm-up in the 26-trampoline arena followed by a cardio workout incorporating several different types of jumps and stretches.
Rock Climbing - Beginner and intermediate climbers learn the basic techniques of rock climbing on CPCT’s 20' wall.  This great total body workout prepares climbers to head outdoors in the spring.
Adult Gymnastics – Requiring no prior gymnastics experience, Adult Gymnastics begins with a group warm-up/stretch, then proceeds with basic tumbling skills on the floor.  Students learn handstands, rolls, cartwheels, round-offs, handsprings and saltos.
Adult Parkour – This exciting class combines aspects of Parkour and Free Running.  Students learn to overcome obstacles through running, jumping, climbing and other acrobatic movements. The class begins with a warm-up, conditioning and core strength work, followed by the fundamental movements of Parkour (vaults, precisions, strides, rolls and more). The class ends with a complete Parkour obstacle course.

CPCT FITNESS CENTER
Personal Training -  Experienced and certified training staff work with members in the 5,000 sq. ft. fitness facility to achieve optimal health and performance goals. The training staff designs programs that are focused on getting the results members want utilizing the state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment including Precor, Free-Motion circuit and a large functional training area.
Fitness On Request – The first installation in the area, Fitness on Request is a comprehensive group fitness program of pre-recorded classes delivered on an 11-foot screen. Classes are offered both on a "scheduled" and "on demand" basis. Eight major genres including over 50 unique multi-level classes in varying time lengths are presented by top instructors in the industry.

Additionally, Flywheel Stadium Cycling, which is located on the Chelsea Piers Campus, opened its doors in December. Flywheel is open to the public, offering class cards and a wide range of classes.  Preferred pricing is available for CPCT Members.
