American Serena Williams returned to the court with a vengeance in 2012, racking up two more Grand Slam titles, two Olympic gold medals and the year-end tour championship to add more pages to her already amazing legacy.
Much like Roger Federer on the men’s side of the sport, as Serena enters her 30s still inexplicably in her prime, the records she is coming in sight of are some of the greatest in the history of her sport.

Here’s a look at some of the marks Serena is bearing down on as 2013 begins:

Grand Slam Titles – She has 15, good for fourth all-time. A truly remarkable season could get her three more, tying her with Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova for No. 2 on the Open Era list.

Grand Slam QF Appearances – Has 34. She needs one more to move past Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario into sole possession of fourth place.

AO Match Wins – Has 54. Needs three to pass Lindsay Davenport for the most in Open Era history.

FO Match Wins – Has 39, tied for ninth all-time. Two more will tie sister Venus for eighth; three more will tie Gabriela Sabatini for seventh.

Wimbledon Match Wins – Has 67. Trails sister Venus by four for fourth place all-time.

Career WTA Titles – Has 46, good for sixth. Needs seven to catch Monica Seles for fifth, nine to tie Lindsay Davenport for fourth.

Career WTA Finals – Has appeared in 61, tied for eighth with Justine Henin. Sister Venus is seventh with 71.

Career Wins – has 554. Needs 42 to pass Monica Seles for 15th.

Career Wins vs. No. 1 – Has 16, the second most in Open Era history. Two more will tie her for first with Martina Navratilova.
