Andy Murray earned a special honor that once again reduced him to tears in his native Scotland.

On Wednesday, Murray accepted the freedom of Stirling in a special meeting held by the Stirling Council at Dunblane High School. Murray also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Stirling.

The reigning Wimbledon champion grew up in Dunblane that is just north of Stirling. On accepting the award, Murray broke down in tears as he tried to contain his emotions.

"Everyone knows how proud I am of where I come from, so this is a huge honor," Murray said.

Murray is only the third freeman of Stirling in a ceremony held at his former high school.
