Tomic Withdraws, Murray Moves on in Barcelona

Bernard Tomic snapped a losing streak yesterday, but won’t extend a winning streak today.

Tomic withdrew from the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell today due to a lower back injury he sustained in his 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, first-round victory over Dustin Brown.

Tomic snapped a five-match losing streak in earning his first win since the Australian Open second round in January.

Tomic’s withdrawal sends world No. 1 Andy Murray into the round of 16 without striking a shot.

The top-seeded Scot, who is making his first appearance in Barcelona since 2002, will take on either Feliciano López or Albert Montañès for a quarterfinal spot.
