Sabine Lisicki Receives Guinness World Record for Stanford Serve

Sabine Lisicki's record-breaking serve was honored by the Guinness Book of World Records at the US Open on Friday. In a loss to Ana Ivanovic in Stanford, Lisicki cracked a 131 mph serve to hold in the 11th game of the first set. Lisicki hit the serve with her Yonex VCORE Tour 97 racket, and Yonex Polytour Spin String.

The 131 mph mark was just two ticks better than the previous record of 129 mph, held by Venus Williams. Williams cracked that serve at the 2007 US Open. To recognize her achievement, Lisicki was presented with a certificate by Guinness World Records' Kimberley Partrick on Friday.

"I've always loved to serve hard, and in that match, I just felt it," Lisicki said, upon receiving her award. "I'm very excited."

"I felt that I hit it very hard and good, but it was only when I heard the crowd that I realized that it was 131," she said.

Lisicki, the No.26 seed at the US Open, begins her campaign on Monday against Canadian qualifier Françoise Abanda.
