It's been almost ten years since Andy Murray played at the ATP event in Washington, D.C. But the World No. 3 is making a return trip at this week's Citi Open as its top seed.

Murray, who last appeared in D.C. back in 2006, continues to enjoy special treatment at the event that included a private tour of the White House with his team and coach Jonas Bjorkman.

“It was fantastic to look around the White House. It’s something I’ve never done before and may never get the opportunity to do again,” Murray said to ATP.com “It was nice to come here with my team…The West Wing was very interesting to see. So many important meetings and decisions take place in that building…it’s quite a powerful place to see.”

While he's enjoyed playing tourist, it's playing tennis that has brought Murray back to D.C. this week. He kicks off his preparations for the upcoming US Open earlier than usual by competing at the ATP 500 level event.

After getting a first round bye, Murray will face the winner of Teymuraz Gabashvili versus Benjamin Becker. Murray is also playing doubles this week with veteran Daniel Nestor.

“I’m really looking forward to playing the Citi Open; I’ve not been in Washington since 2006. The tournament has made a lot of improvements and they get very good crowds. It’s extremely hot, difficult conditions, but I arrived here very early, the Tuesday before the tournament, which is probably the earliest I’ve arrived at a tournament outside of the Slams, so hopefully I’ll be able to get off to a good start," Murray said.
