Nike's New US Open Line Inspired By '80s

Remember the days when rebels Andre Agassi and John McEnroe merged attitude and artistry on court?

Nike does and the brand that outfitted both Hall of Famers draws inspiration from some of its 1980s fashions for its new US Open collection.

The bright lights of New York City also influenced the Swoosh brand's US Open line, and the images of the apparel Nike stars Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Madison Keys and Grigor Dimitrov will wear.

Nike says bright pops of color for it's on-court apparel "mimic the chromatic shift of neon lights" in New York. Pleats on the dresses Serena Williams and Madison Keys will wear at the Open are designed for greater range of motion and expose peaks of color beneath the US Open lights.

For its US Open off-court apparel, Nike said it incorporated 1980s design details as well as some of its vocal stars' past clashes with the press. "Pixelated graphics reference (players') habit of being censored by the media," Nike said.
