Becker Named Germany's Head of Men's Tennis



Three-time Wimbledon champion Boris Becker has been hired for the position of head of men's tennis by the German tennis federation. Becker will advise all top male players from the country and help its Davis Cup team.

The position will be his until the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, at which time the situation will be evaluated again.

"We will do it until the Olympics in Japan and then we will see," Becker said.

According to CNN, Becker’s role will be unpaid.

The federation also announced Barbara Rittner's move from Fed Cup captain to head of women's tennis.

In the 1990’s tennis grew to massive popularity during the heyday of Becker and 22-time major champion Steffi Graf.

"Tennis is a matter of the heart for me,” Becker, the former coach of Novak Djokovic, said. “It is what I can do best. I don't need to talk about my achievements as a player and I am proud of my accomplishments as coach.”

In addition to his duties as Djokovic’s coach, where he guided the Serb to six Grand Slam titles in three years, Becker also works as a lead commentator for the BBC during Wimbledon.

"I love this sport. I love this country and I am happy again to play an important role in German tennis,” he said.
