The WTA’s inaugural Coach of the Year Award has been awarded to Sascha Bajin, who coached Naomi Osaka to her first major title and highest career ranking in 2018.

According to the WTA, the award is given to the coach with not only success on the court, but also one who serves as an ambassador of the sport and brings coaching to the forefront of the game. In addition to guiding Osaka to new heights, Bajin also served as a Gold Member of the newly implemented WTA Coach Program, conducting countless interviews and taking part in panel discussions throughout the season.

In other WTA Awards news, Petra Kvitova was awarded the Karen Krantzcke Sportsmanship Award for the sixth successive year and seventh time overall, while Bethanie Mattek-Sands won the Peachy Kellmeyer Player Service Award.
