Julia Goerges made her Top 10 debut this week, joining Angelique Kerber inside the elite group to make it the first time that two Germans have occupied the Top 10 in the same week in 20 years.
Not since Steffi Graf and Anke Huber were both in the Top 10 in September of 1997, have two Germans occupied the WTA’s elite group.
Goerges replaces Kristina Mladenovic at No.10, while Kerber remains at No.9 in this week’s WTA Rankings. Goerges celebrated the occasion on social media on Monday. At the close of 2016, she was No.54 in the world. Goerges, aged 29 years, 95 days, will be the fourth-oldest player to make her WTA Top 10 debut following Roberta Vinci (33 years, 4 days), Betty Stove (31 years, 100 days) and Francesca Schiavone (29 years, 349 days).
