Li Na, Tennis Hall of Famer and the first Asian player to win a major singles title, has made a significant donation to help fight the coronavirus in her hometown of Wuhan.


The two-time major champion donated 3 million yuan (US$430,000) to the fight the coronavirus epidemic that has ravaged Wuhan and spread throughout China and the globe.

According to the South China Morning Post, Li is an ambassador of the foundation which will use the donation to provide medical materials to designated hospitals in Wuhan.

Current Chinese No.1 and World No. 27 Wang Qiang has also pledged to donate funds. She will donate 1000 Yuan for every game she wins over the next six weeks.


As of Thursday February 13th, over 48,000 people had tested positive for the Coronavirus in Hubei Province, and over 59,000 have tested positive all over China.
