Andrey Rublev made it 17 wins from his last 18 matches with a straight-sets victory over Alexander Bublik on Thursday in Rotterdam. The Russian has caught fire of late and he moves on to the quarterfinals where he will face the winner of tonight’s match between Vasek Pospisil and Filip Krajinovic.

The Russian has already claimed two titles in 2020 and he reached the second week of the Australian Open before falling to Alexander Zverev.

As always, Rublev is focused on the process and refuses to get to excited about day-to-day victories.

“It’s only the beginning of the season so for sure, like I said before, I will have bad days, I will have bad weeks, bad months,” he told David Avakian of ABN Amro. “The most important thing is: when it’s going to happen how will I face them? Will I face them strong or will I start to complain and then maybe instead of two weeks it is going to be one month and a half of bad results, so we will see. The most important things will be in the future.”

Tsitsipas Stunned by Bedene

Stefanos Tsitsipas got his first win in Rotterdam two days ago against Hubert Hurkacz but he could not keep it rolling on Thursday as he was taken out by Aljaz Bedene 7-5 6-4. The No.2 seed failed on all of five of his break opportunities and as he became frustrated he was broken twice in three service games to allow Bedene the edge.

Tsitsipas lost focus and was broken at love for 6-5 in the first set, and he was broken for 2-1 in the second set and that was all the 52nd-ranked Slovenian would need to lock up his first Top 10 since 2018. Bedene improves to 2-20 lifetime against the Top 10 and will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals.
