Kyle Edmund is out of the Australian Open.

"Unfortunately, my knee is not quite ready to compete in the upcoming Australia swing," Edmund said. "I hope to be back competing soon."

The 48th-ranked Briton joins six-time AO champion Roger Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in withdrawing from the Australian Open, which starts on February 8th.

AO qualifying play begins tomorrow in Doha and Dubai marking the first time the qualifying tournament will not be staged on Australian soil.

Last February Edmund won his second title at the New York Open, but he was bothered by a left knee issue when the season resumed last summer. Edmund ended 2020 on a five-match losing streak and was forced to pull out of Roland Garros because of the knee injury.
