Nicole Vaidisova: A Return for Real?

Since her premature retirement from the game at the age of 20, rumors have consistently swirled regarding if (or when) Nicole Vaidisova would make a comeback to to professional tennis. The 25-year-old was a teenaged prodigy on the WTA Tour, but retired four years ago saying she had "lost her love" for the sport.

After telling Matt Cronin of Tennis.com as recently as February that she "no longer owns a tennis racket" and had no immediate plans to return, it seems like Vaidsova's done a little shopping.

The former World No. 7 posted a video on her official Instagram account Wednesday of her practicing a serve on a tennis court. The Czech underwent shoulder surgery at the end of 2013, and told Cronin in the same report that she wouldn't be practicing to begin with until she was fully healed.

"These last couple weeks I'm finally able to serve with less pain than I have in over 3 years, it makes me hopeful and happy to see progress after struggling the last couple years with repeated surgeries, rehabs and setbacks," the 25-year-old said in the video's caption. "It's one step at a time but finally getting a step closer."

Vaidisova's last professional match was a loss to Heather Watson in an ITF event in Louisiana in 2010. Shortly following her retirement, Vaidisova married fellow Czech Radek Stepanek, but the pair's divorce was finalized earlier this year.
