Eugenie Bouchard says she’d rather travel to Rio for the 2016 Olympic Summer games than sit at home regretting her decision. The Canadian No.1 has elected to compete after expressing serious doubts earlier this week at Washington, D.C.

"My two big concerns with the Olympics are the Zika virus obviously, and security in general," Bouchard told reporters. "It was a hard decision for me and I definitely thought about all the pros and cons. But at the end of the day I knew in my heart I didn't want to be sitting at home watching the Olympics on TV.”

Bouchard will compete in the Olympics for the first time. She said she is unsure about which events she'll compete in at the games, and will decide after the Rogers Cup.

Bouchard said she decided to play after thinking things over and talking it out with her team and family. Last week she told media that she was very unsure and not quite ready to commit.

"I'm truly undecided. You see more and more people pulling out as the deadline gets closer," Bouchard said last week at the Citi Open. "Obviously some golfers pulled out as well, the most high profile ones. It's also surprising to me that more men have pulled out than women. So it just gets you thinking."

With that big decision behind her, Bouchard will begin to focus on finding a way to power deep into the Rogers Cup draw, something she has yet to do. Bouchard owns a 2-8 lifetime record at the Rogers Cup and has dropped three in a row at the event.

She’ll face Lucie Safarova in the first round at Montreal. Safarova defeated Bouchard in their only previous meeting in three sets (Quebec City, 2013).
