Hingis' New Olympic Partner

Martina Hingis lost two partners before the Olympic Games even began, but she seems to have found a new partner for Rio.

It likely won't be Stan Wawrinka.

Hingis is scheduled to partner 15th-ranked Timea Bacsinszky in doubles according to the International Tennis Federation entry list.

The world No. 1 doubles player did not confirm her partner when asked about it in her Rogers Cup press conference on Thursday.

"We have to figure out in our team what's going to happen now," Hingis said. "It's in the process and I can't give you an answer to that.

"All I had to say, it's already on Instagram and Facebook. Like I said, it's too short to make any abrupt decisions right now. When I know more, I'm sure you will know, as well."

The Hall of Famer had planned to partner good friend Roger Federer in a Swiss mixed doubles dream team of former world No. 1 players. However, Federer announced he has closed the curtain on his 2016 season to rehab his surgically-repaired left knee, ending the prospect of a reunion with Hingis, whom Federer partnered to the 2001 Hopman Cup championship.

Hingis and Federer considered partnering to play mixed doubles at the 2012 Olympic Games held at Wimbledon, however the Hall of Famer said she did not have enough time to prepare for London.

Hingis' original scheduled doubles partner for Rio, Belinda Bencic, was forced to withdraw with a wrist injury.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Wawrinka he likely won't play mixed doubles with Hingis in Rio and suggested he probably wouldn't have played doubles with Federer either. The pair won the doubles gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

"But, for me, even before wasn't 100% sure that I was playing with Roger the doubles," Wawrinka said. "We put us on the list just to have the choice and wait the last minute. I don't think I'm going to try to play doubles anyway.

"I don't think (I will play mixed doubles). I don't think so. I think I want to focus really on the singles. Again, as I say, I'm not as young anymore. It's a tough summer, also. It's a tough schedule to do. But I really want to go there and try to do everything possible for the singles."
