Second Serve

Feliciano Lopez comes from a clay-court nation. But it was a Swedish serve-and-volleyer who inspired his style.

In this interview with Swiss Open Gstaad, the Spanish left-hander cites Hall of Famer Stefan Edberg as a stylistic influence.

"My favorite player was Stefan Edberg when I was a kid," Lopez says in the video above. "He probably had the best volley ever in the game. He was a huge inspiration. And then when you start developing your game, when you're young you just try to use your best weapons. I think I was gifted with a great serve and I have to take advantage of that. So I think that's why I do serve-and-volley a lot."

The 34-year-old Lopez captured his first Grand Slam doubles title last month partnering Marc Lopez to win Roland Garros. He says he's committed to competing in 2017.

"I take it one year at a time. My last four years on the tour were fantastic," Lopez says. "I had amazing results. I'm very happy with everything I'm achieving at the moment. I want to finish this year strong. If everything goes as I'm expecting I'll probably play the next year for sure, we'll see."
