Isners Expecting First Child

John Isner is aiming for a berth in Wimbledon's second week, while looking forward to a major birth after the US Open.

Isner and wife Madison McKinley Isner are expecting their first child, a baby girl, in September.

"Yeah, our baby is due on September 22nd, so hopefully after a nice run at the US Open, you know, we'll see what happens," Isner told the media after reaching the Wimbledon third round. "Our first kid, sometimes they come early, sometimes they come late. Whenever it comes, it's going to be a blessing.

"Madi and I are certainly looking forward to that. And our life is in Dallas now. That's where I live. We're going to have a lot of help, which helps, because my in-laws, her parents are amazing. Her family is amazing. And then my family I think is awesome, as well. So this kid is going to have a lot of love. That's for sure."

The ninth-seeded Isner smacked 64 aces and fought off match points in the final set subduing Ruben Bemelmans, 6-1, 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-7 (3), 7-5, in three hours, 46 minutes.

Contesting his 10th Wimbledon, Isner will be favored to reach the fourth round for the first time when he faces Radu Albot in round three. Albot won his second straight five-setter after rallying past 20th-seeded Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in his opener.

Third-seeded Marin Cilic's stunning second-round loss to Guido Pella earlier today opens up the second quarter of the draw for Isner, who provoked laughter from the media when asked about the prospect of facing good buddy Sam Querrey in the semifinals.

"Isn't Roger [Federer] in the draw?" Isner quipped of the eight-time Wimbledon champion.
