The Springfield Lasers stayed at the top of the WTT table and remained undefeated for the 2019 season with a dramatic 19-18 victory over the Vegas Rollers to spoil Vegas’ home debut.
Jean-Julien Rojer and Enrique Lopez-Perez defeated Mike and Bob Bryan 7-4 in a tiebreak to secure the triumph for the undefeated Lasers.
Monica Puig helped Vegas get back into the contest with a 5-1 women’s singles victory over Anna Blinkova, but it wasn’t enough to get Vegas over the hurdle in the end.
Vegas drops to 2-4 on the season while Springfield improves to 5-0.
Kastles Remain Winless
The Washington Kastles dropped to 0-5 on the season with a 22-16 loss to the New York Empires. Yoshihito Nishioka was the only player who could get on the right side of the ledger for the Kastles. Kirsten Flipkens defeated Marta Kostyuk in a singles tiebreak and paired with Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez to win women’s doubles.
The Empire are 3-3 on the season.
Azarenka Makes Debut for Orange County
Victoria Azarenka claimed singles and doubles victories to help power the Orange County Breakers (2-2) past the San Diego Aviators (3-3), 24-17. Azarenka defeated Danielle Lao, 5-1, in singles, and teamed with Andreja Klepac to notch a 5-4 set over Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Lao in doubles.
