Second Serve

The Monday after Wimbledon is typically a blockbuster day for rankings, with players cashing in their Wimbledon success for new career-high rankings or significant rises up the table.

But we won’t be getting that this year because the tours did not offer ranking points at Wimbledon, in a reaction to the Championships’ decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players.

But there are still some surprises in the rankings, due largely to the fact that last year’s Wimbledon points are coming off with nothing to replace.

That means a well-earned spot in the top-10 for British No.1 Emma Raducanu.

Raducanu, who reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon in 2021, fell in second-round action to Caroline Garcia this year at SW19. She still rises a spot in the rankings, making her top-10 debut at No.10.

American Danielle Collins, who lost in the first-round at Wimbledon to Marie Bouzkova, also hits a career-high at No.7.

Same for Coco Gauff, who rises to No.11.

Ons Jabeur, who engineered a run to her first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, drops from No.2 to No.5 this week, as her quarter-final points from last year drop off.

Iga Swiatek, who fell in the third round at Wimbledon to Alizé Cornet, remains at No.1, with a 4,010-point lead over No.2 Anett Kontaveit.

Some big drops as a result of last year’s Wimbledon points dropping:

Karolina Pliskova, last year’s runner-up drops seven spots to No.15
Angelique Kerber, semi-finalist last year, drops 12 spots to No.31
Ajla Tomljanovic, quarter-finalist last year, drops 27 spots to No.71
Viktorija Golubic, quarter-finalist last year, drops 42 to No.100
