Report: RG Will Drop Mixed Doubles, Reduce Draw

Roland Garros is trimming draws.

The clay-court Grand Slam plans to reduce singles draws from 128 to 96 players and eliminate mixed doubles and legends tournaments in an effort to reduce the numbers of players on site in this cornavirus climate, Marca reports.

Roland Garros, which made the unilateral decision to move from its traditional May spot in the schedule to September 20th, also plans to use lights in Philippe Chatrier Court, which will debut its new retractable roof as well as on eight other courts, according to Marca.

A view of how an illuminated Roland Garros will look appears at about the 1:40 mark of the video.

French media reports Roland Garros will start a week later than the September 20th start date listed on the Roland Garros website.
