Vaccines are rolling out across the globe, but the coronavirus pandemic is far from over. And tennis continues to be hit by positive Covid results. This week Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan tested positive for Covid-19 while playing at the Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey, Mexico.

“Yesterday I did a standard check up covid-19 test and it turned out to be positive. I have only mild symptoms and feel okay at the moment,” Juvan, ranked 91, wrote on social media. “Unfortunately that means I had to withdraw from yesterday's match as well as Miami and other tournaments that are coming in the next month or so.”

Juvan had qualified in Monterrey and was slated to face Sara Sorribes Tormo in the second round. It has been a solid 2021 for the 20-year-old. She put up a career-best result at the Australian Open, reaching the third round.

“I'm happy with my performances over the past few months,” she wrote. “I want to say thank you to everyone for the support, this is not ideal but I'll be back soon.”
