Second Serve

Have you ever seen a smash get SMASHED? Now you have, thanks to Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic, who took care of this limp smash off the racquet of Laslo Djere (also from Serbia) with an exclamation point on Friday at the Argentina Open!

It was a bit of brilliance during Kecmanovic’s 6-4, 7-6(6) victory, which sets a semifinal clash with top-seeded Diego Schwartzman in Buenos Aires. Kecmanovic is working with former ATP star David Nalbandian during the Latin Swing this season, and their hard work appears to be paying dividends - he has reached his first career semifinal on clay.

Schwartzman was dominant on serve as he defeated Spain’s Jaume Munar 6-2, 7-5.

In the lower half of the draw Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, the older brother of Juan Manuel, reached his first career semifinal with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Pablo Andujar. The 22-year-old qualifier, who earned his first ATP win last week while his brother went on to become the first player to claim a title on his ATP main draw debut, will face Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the semis.

“I think it’s been two amazing weeks for me, for my brother, for my family, for Argentine tennis players and fans. I think what my brother did last week was unreal,” Cerundolo told ATPTour.com. “It inspired me and many other players that are coming from lower rankings that we have the level to play these type of matches.”
