During an interview with the ATP at the Mutua Madrid Open, Roger Federer expresses his belief that Rafael Nadal is right where he needs to be in terms of gearing up for a run at a record tenth Roland Garros title.

“He’s right there,” says Federer. “If somebody slips, if somebody is not playing well, he will always take it.”

He added: “Let’s wait a week, let’s maybe wait two weeks. Next thing you know he’s back where he wants to be. He’s such a great player, and so experienced, that I have no doubt that he will be very, very hard to beat, even unbeatable, at the French Open again.”

Federer will open his bid for a fourth Madrid title on Wednesday when he faces rising Aussie Nick Kyrgios.
