Portugal’s Joao Sousa has been quite the newsmaker this week in Geneva. Before the week began he was already the talk of the tournament because he was drawn to play Brazil’s Joao Souza in the first round. How many times have those two been confused before? Let’s just say a few…

Next Sousa got into a spat with Jurgen Melzer about a questionable call in the first set of their second-round tilt. The argument made headlines because Melzer actually told Sousa that their friendship would be over if Sousa did not give him the point in contention.

Friendship: Over. Sousa: Alive!

Today Sousa bounced Federico Delbonis from the draw while bouncing off the seat of his pants on this incredible match point. Tough luck for Delbonis, who really had some room to work with if he makes his forehand. But amazing job by Sousa to stick with the point despite taking a fall on the clay.

Sousa will face Brazil’s Thomaz Bellucci in the final tomorrow. In their first meeting, each will be bidding for their first final of 2015.
