Rafael Nadal claimed the Madrid title in two tight sets over Dominic Thiem, 7-6(8), 6-4.

The two battled for two hours and 17 minutes and Nadal finally converted his fourth match point with a volley winner.

The Spaniard has now tied Novak Djokovic for the all-time lead in Masters 1000 titles with 30. He has won 15 consecutive matches on clay this spring and claimed 30 of 32 sets.
