Grigor Dimitrov began the defense of his maiden title in Stockholm in style on Wednesday, taking down Teymuraz Gabashvili, 7-5, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals of the IT Stockholm Open.

Naturally, the Bulgarian’s performance was not without stylistic high points, as Dimitrov turned in a pair of gorgeous hot shots on set point (below) and match point (above) to keep the Swedish faithful entertained.

Dimitrov, who currently finds himself in need of points to make a late run for ATP World Tour Finals qualification, will next face wither Jack Sock or Jeremy Chardy in the quarterfinals. 300 points currently separate Dimitrov from the 8th spot in the Race to London rankings, but the Bulgarian would need to reach at least the semifinals to see any gain to his point total.

Elsewhere in Stockholm, American Sock defeated Andrey Golubev, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0, while Fernando Verdasco knocked off Jarkko Nieminen, 6-3, 6-4.

Bernard Tomic upset third-seeded Kevin Anderson, 7-6(4), 6-4, while qualifier Dustin Brown knocked off Sweden’s Christian Lindell, 6-4, 7-6(3).
