Rafael Nadal won’t have to deal with five-time China Open champion Novak Djokovic in Beijing unless he reaches the final.

The seventh-ranked and third-seeded Nadal was drawn into the lower half of the draw, where he’ll face Chinese wild card Di Wu in the first round.

Nadal could face Vasek Pospisil or Victor Estrella Burgos in the second round, and could potentially see 8th-seede Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarterfinals.

Djokovic, who defeated Tomas Berdych in last year’s final, will open with a qualifier. The Serb, who has won in Beijing in five of the last six seasons, and owns a ridiculously remarkable 24-0 record at the event. He could face 6th-seeded John Isner, Tommy Robredo or Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals.

If the seeds hold the semifinals would feature Djokovic vs. 4th-seeded David Ferrer and Nadal vs. 2nd-seeded Berdych.

Djokovic will pair with his brother Djordje in the doubles draw. They open with Mao-Xin Gong and Michael Venus in the first round. If they win they’d face either Bolelli/Fognini or Sock/Pospisil.
