Second Serve

Things were going so swimmingly for Nick Kyrgios during his 6-4, 6-2 win over Gilles Muller in Tokyo that the Aussie decided to have a little fun early in the second set. They say that ‘tweeners are contagious and this point is living proof. Watch as Kyrgios ignores the fact that Muller’s shot is about to land three feet long. Nah, that’s not important—BECAUSE ‘TWEENER.

Kyrgios couldn’t help himself on this point, it was just one of the Monfilsian moments where the potential for showtime trumped the practical reality of winning the point.

But Kyrgios won the point anyway. He launched a backhand winner to make sure of that, and will go on to face Gael Monfils in the semifinals on Saturday in Tokyo. Get yer popcorn ready!

Kyrgios also had this happy accident occur in the first set as he went for a smash against Muller. We say happy accident because there is no way in heck that Kyrgios intended to hit a screwy overhead like this, right?
