Both women have qualified for the WTA Finals and are trying to ensure their health for the season-ending Singapore tournament set for October 22-29th.

Wozniacki withdrew with an elbow injury sending 155th-ranked Lizette Cabrera into a quarterfinal meeting with seventh-seeded compatriot Daria Gavrilova.

"I did everything I could possibly to get ready for today but unfortunately I hurt my elbow during practice and there was no way I could perform my best... unfortunately I have to withdraw from the tournament," Wozniacki said.

The top-seeded Svitolina pulled out with a right leg injury, propelling 114th-ranked Nicole Gibbs into an all-American quarterfinal against Jennifer Brady.
