Juan Martin del Potro will reportedly pull out of this year’s #NittoATPFinals due to a fractured patella that he suffered in Shanghai in early October. The Argentine is healing well but does not wish to risk his health by playing so soon.

Del Potro’s imminent withdrawal, which has not yet been made official by the ATP Tour, means that Kei Nishikori would be in eighth place in the standings. The Japanese No.1 passed John Isner last week and leads the American by 145 points.

Isner much reach at least the quarterfinals to pass Nishikori in Paris.

Del Potro had a magnificent season, returning to the final of a Grand Slam at the U.S. Open for the first time in nine years. The 30-year-old went 47-13 with two titles (Acapulco and Indian Wells) and also reached the semifinals at Roland Garros and the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

He had qualified for the ATP’s year-end championships for the first time since 2013, and the fifth time overall.

Del Potro, who was the ATP's Comeback Player of the Year in 2011 and 2016, has been nominated by the ATP for the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award in 2018.
